Two weeks ago, my boyfriend and I celebrated four years of relationship bliss (ha!). At year two, we started a tradition where we take turns planning our anniversary. That year was my turn and we stayed at Hotel Sorella in City Center. We got one of their romance packages and had a great time. Last year we did a tasting menu at Kata Robata. This year, I went back to the Houston staycation well and booked a room at the notorious Marriott Marquis downtown, because I mean, Texas-shaped lazy river and Xochi.
Houston Staycation | Logistics
We totally had a results not typical experience. We got upgraded at check-in. I’d booked a standard king room, no view, no frills and we got the sweetest upgrade I’ve ever gotten to the 710 square foot executive suite with views for days and the most gorgeous bathroom that had both of us considering a bathroom reno in our house. I think part of what helped us get that upgrade is that we stayed on a Sunday night. This helped us in another most glorious way in that we did have to share the pool area with many other folks.
Houston Staycation | What we ate
We checked in at 3:00, drooled over our gorgeous room, got our swimmies on, enjoyed a drink on the lazy river. Then, we came in to get ready for our 7 pm reservations at Xochi. Xochi is located inside of the Marriott Marquis, so you don’t have to travel far. It’s gotten all kinds of accolades and you just can’t go wrong with James Beard Award winner, Hugo Ortega.
Y’all, even if you don’t stay at the Marquis, you’ve got to get yourself to Xochi. And get dessert.
Houston Staycation | What we did
We sat by the pool. We ate at Xochi. We had a nightcap at Hearsay on the Green. We took a few strolls through Discovery Green.
Houston Staycation | If we had another night…
I did not want to leave. I really wanted to move in. It was time to get back to the real world, but if we’d had another day I definitely would have made it a spa day. It’s pricey, no doubt, but we saw a couple of people in their spa robes and they looked super relaxed.
